How to Choose the Right Watch: Size, Movement and Style Guide

1. Measure your wrist

Wrap a soft tape measure (or a strip of paper) around your wrist just above the wrist bone. As a rough guide:

• Under 16cm: slimmer wrist. Cases around 38–41mm usually look balanced.
• 16–18cm: average wrist. Most cases between 40mm and 43mm will suit you.
• Over 18cm: larger wrist. 42mm and up gives a confident, proportional look.

Thickness matters too. A slim case (under 10mm) slides easily under a shirt cuff, while a thicker case has more presence.

2. Quartz or automatic?

Quartz watches run on a battery. They are accurate, low-maintenance and usually lighter, which makes them great everyday watches.

Automatic watches are mechanical. They wind themselves from the movement of your wrist, so there is no battery to replace. Many people love them for the craftsmanship, especially with a skeleton dial or transparent case back that shows the movement at work.

3. Pick a bracelet you will actually wear

4. Check the water resistance

Water ratings are often misunderstood. A 30M (3ATM) watch is splash resistant: fine for rain and washing your hands, but not for swimming or showering. If a watch has no water rating, keep it away from water entirely.
